And the livin’ is easy … Here’s what some of our members got up to during our summer break.
Spangles Ladies’ Harmony Chorus featured amongst the choruses and choirs taking part in the XIX Corales en El Mar concert in Los Alcázares last weekend. “This is one of the favourite concerts on the Spangles calendar and we feel honoured and privileged to take part each year” remarked Musical Director, Wendy Grant. Spangles delighted the predominantly Spanish audience by performing some songs in Spanish: Eres Tu, La Bamba, Cuando Calienta el Sol, as well as their signature piece, in Maori, Pokare Kare Ana. Mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Ginés Pérez Cervera, presented Spangles with a commemorative plaque after their performance. Established in December 2004 with just five ladies, Spangles now…
We always love working with Steve and his second visit to us didn’t disappoint. We learned so much and felt totally empowered and energized after an extremely enjoyable coaching session on our new uptune. What a difference! We look forward to the next visit.
A perfect end to a perfect day, after a great rehearsal, was singing for the parents, teachers and students of IES RUIZ de ALDA at the Concejalía de Juventud de San Javier. Thank you to the students for forming a ‘guard of honour’ as we left the auditorium and to everyone for the lovely gifts. The beautiful fans will be put to good use and we will wear our badges with great pride. Have a super summer break and we look forward to seeing you all again in September.
We had a fabulous time singing for the wonderful LFEST audience on 9 June and we even got them singing (it wasn’t hard). What a great bunch! We returned on 13 June to run a fun workshop, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
We had an absolute blast at this youth workshop in San Javier today. Great group of aspiring musicians, keen to learn the art of four part harmony singing. We will be working alongside music teacher, Carmen, to create the first youth chorus in San Javier in the new term. We’re excited to be performing for pupils, parents and teachers on 20 June. #spreadingthebarbershoplove #futureofbarbershopinspain
We had a blast in Calpe and came home with a bronze medal and the highest score in our history of 70.5%. Here are some of the photos from that trip, with special thanks to Eric Ideler for the official, on-stage photos.
What an absolute pleasure it was to be invited to provide an a cappella and barbershop 💈 workshop for this enthusiastic group of pupils, with ages ranging from 12 to 18. We had a ball and have already been invited back later this year. We are hopeful that we can get a youth chorus started here too. Photos: Lindy Easson and Polly Rimmer
It was a full house at Spangles’ concert at the Los Alcázares town hall last Friday. Organized to celebrate International Women’s Day, the ladies of this medal-winning chorus did not disappoint. “We are very grateful to the town hall for inviting us to celebrate international women’s day in the best way we know how” said MD, Wendy Grant. “Spangles is made up of some great women and we were delighted to sing for the people of the town”. Formed in December 2004 with just five women, Spangles is in its 15th year and has grown to over 40 members who love the a cappella style of singing. They are also…
We love the lead up to Christmas and 2018 has been another bumper season for the ladies, who have been raising funds for local charities in several venues. “Each year gets busier with requests to sing at people’s Christmas celebrations and we love to get people in the festive mood” said Wendy Grant, Chorus Musical Director. The holiday season started with a Christmas Fayre at A Time 4 a Change in Los Alcázares, raising 345€ for Cruz Azul Murcia. This was swiftly followed by the MABS craft fair in Los Alcázares, Christmas Lights Ceremony at Spanglish in Balsicas, Spangles Christmas concert in Los Alcázares and a concert at La Manga…
