Merry Christmas Everyone!

Spangles in Cartagena

Barbershop chorus champions, Spangles Ladies’ Harmony Chorus, has been busier than ever this Christmas season, singing to the public in various locations, with the first was on Sunday, 11 December, at the Centro Comercial Dos Mares, entertaining Spanish and foreign shoppers with their festive repertoire. The Dos Mares security guards were extremely helpful and the Cerveceria Gambrinus Dos provided the whole chorus with some much-welcomed refreshments. Moving swiftly on, Spangles then visited the Novo Carthago/Paddy Singh’s in Los Urrutias to sing to the diners there, followed by their own Christmas dinner celebration in the restaurant.

On Friday, 16 December, Spangles was invited to join three Spanish choruses: Coro Magister, Coral Polifonica ‘Carthagonova’ and Agrupacion Coral ‘Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion’ to sing in the beautiful surroundings of la Iglesia de Santo Domingo in Cartagena. “It was a magical concert” said co-Chorus Manager, Lyn Baines “and our MD was honoured to be asked to conduct all four choirs singing ‘Noche de Paz’ at the end”. Spangles was presented with a plaque to commemorate the occasion, which will take pride of place in their trophy cabinet and were told by the church that they are welcome back at any time to sing. They have also been invited to join the choirs for the choral festival in Los Alcázares next July.

A staunch supporter of MABS Murcia/Mar Menor, they will be joining staff and MABS volunteers at Iceland Overseas, San Javier on Thursday, 22 December to get everyone in the mood for Christmas. Customers have been treated to bag packing by the volunteers since 12 December and Thursday will be no exception, so make sure that you schedule your shopping for that day.

“We’ve had an amazing year” commented Spangles MD, Gail Grainger, “Becoming the 2011 barbershop champions of Spain and Portugal was truly the highlight of the year and we are looking forward to performing on the stage in Benalmadena in 2012 to hand over the crown to another chorus. We wish all our supporters a very happy Christmas and New Year and we look forward to performing for you again in 2012”.

Following on from their gold medal success, Spangles has released a CD called ‘Pure Gold’, which includes their two winning contest songs and many audience favourites. ‘Pure Gold’ is on sale at 8 Euros and makes an ideal Christmas present. Call 968 432 525 or 968 334 527 to order your copy.
