SABS Convention 2016

Spangles and MIB

Thursday, 31 March saw Spangles arrive in Calpe to sunshine and a lovely sea view, ready to carry out our duties as mic-warmers, door stewards and couriers. The day was jam-packed with hotel check-in, convention registration, sound check at the theatre, rehearsal, dinner and watching a fabulous show with Musical Island Boys and LoveNotes. We then dashed back to the hotel for the opening ceremony and to take part in the Fun Show as ABBACadabra. This show kickstarts the weekend where anyone can take part, but it has to be something to make the audience laugh. It’s a great ice-breaker which was organised and compered by our own Donna Walsh.

Friday was quartet contest day and we were delighted to see three quartets, comprising Spangles members, compete. We were even more delighted to see Shiraz (Mo, Marina, Liz and Madelon) win their first silver medal – wow! Also taking part were Quartz (featuring Phil Molloy) who were awarded the highest scoring mixed quartet medal and Con-Fusion (Wendy, Heather, Linda and Carol) in their splendid red dresses.

The highlight of our weekend had to be singing Pokare Kare Ana with Musical Island Boys on the Saturday show – what an honour! This was followed by a great afterglow and a scratch quartet contest, organised and compered by Donna – we think you missed your calling Donna!

We’re looking forward to 2017 convention in Benalmádena and are already working on our contest songs. Here area  few photos from SABS16 – you can find lots more on our gallery page.
